Brianna LaPaglia is opening up about the importance of investing.

The 27-year-old content creator, who is better known by the nickname “Brianna Chickenfry” online, took to TikTok on Tuesday, October 13, where she urged other social media influencers to prioritize investing their earnings over spending money on glitzy designer wares.

“As I clean my closet, I also scroll on TikTok. I came across this girl’s video, and she’s talking about how insane it is… how much money influencers make. How they’re doing $100,000-plus hauls,” the Plan Bri Uncut podcast host began. “I’m also a little bit taken aback.”

While she didn’t call out the girl in question, LaPaglia did reflect on her own experience as an influencer over the last decade, sharing how grateful she was for the income she earns from social media. However, she cautioned that the spending habits she’s seeing online from other influencers could lead to difficult financial circumstances down the line.

“What I don’t understand are these designer hauls. And the apartments that these people are buying. I’m sorry, renting. The money that they’re spending on clothes, like I know everyone’s rates. I know how this [expletive] works,” LaPaglia said.

She continued, “I’m stressed for these people because I’m like, ‘Are you investing? Do you own any properties?’ You just spent $100,000 on bags. This is not going to last forever. Every dollar that I’ve ever made that doesn’t go into my rent, into my mortgage because I bought a property, into my bills… is invested.”

As for why she’s so concerned, LaPaglia argued that while she and many of these influencers are popular now, there may come a time when their audiences are no longer as interested in their content, impacting their overall ability to make money online.

“I get stressed out for these people because I’m like, there’s gonna come a time when you’re not popping. When people don’t give a [expletive] about us anymore. And you’re just going to have to sell all of your stuff on The RealReal,” she joked, referencing the popular designer reseller.

Saving has always been a priority for the Barstool Sports personality, who said she didn’t “come from money.” She told her followers that she started putting money away the second she got her first brand deal, which she estimated was worth around $800.

Stressing again the importance of investment planning over simply storing extra money in a savings account, LaPaglia reiterated her message.

“Any extra money you should be putting away,” LaPaglia added. “And I guess you can argue that bags are an investment, but like, so is your future and like, a college fund for your kids. You can make more money if you invest it. I don’t know, man.”

LaPaglia’s followers seemed to agree with her, with one writing in the comment section, “We need financial audits for influencers 😬😬,” and another commenting, “I feel like a lot of these ppl return everything and just do it for show.”

“Girl! WAY TO GO! you are doing it right,” another user wrote, praising LaPaglia. “From a female financial planner, you are setting the right example. Now just make sure your estate planning is in order! ā¤ļø.”
